Steep Yard Mower

Robot mowers by slope rating

Four robot mowers have a slope rating that matches in two places. Three are rated for 80%. The fourth, a Husqvarna, is rated 70% and still needs a boundary wire.

An 80% slope rises 8 feet for every 10 feet you walk. In angle terms that is about 39 degrees. If your yard is gentler than that, you have room to spare, but read the part about ratings below before you trust the margin.

Specs read November 4, 2026 from each maker's page and matched against a second publisher. Sources for every row are at the bottom of this page. Prices are what each page showed that day. Dreame's price is left off because four pages gave four different amounts.

What a slope rating does and doesn't tell you

It is the maker's number. The Husqvarna shows why you have to read past it: Husqvarna rates the 435X AWD at 70% inside the lawn but only 50% at the edge, where the boundary wire runs. A steep bank that ends at a fence or a flower bed can matter more than the middle of the grass.

Two mowers left off the list show how far a spec sheet can drift. Sunseeker's page rates its Elite X7 Plus at 70%, but the Freshly Charged review says 28 degrees, which is about 53%, and adds that 35 degrees applies in some regions. Ecovacs lists its GOAT A3000 at 50% in one place on its own page and talks about "inclines of up to 15 degrees" in another. When a maker's page disagrees with itself, neither figure is published. The full list is below.

For one real measurement: Notebookcheck's test ramp had Mammotion Luba Mini AWD models climbing a 65% slope. That is a smaller mower, one Notebookcheck puts in its small-yard class, so it says nothing direct about the four in the table.

For comparison, the University of Georgia's extension service says riding mowers can slide and roll over on anything steeper than 27%. Robot mowers are rated well above that, and they are far lighter (Mammotion lists the LUBA 3 AWD at 41 pounds). None of the pages say how a rating changes on wet or loose ground.

The four, one at a time

Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD

Rated 80% (38.6°), in three sizes: 1500 for 0.37 acre, 3000 for 0.75 acre and 5000 for 1.25 acres. It runs on LiDAR and camera AI, and the 3000 and 5000 add a satellite correction service over Wi-Fi or 4G. TechRadar's reviewer confirmed there is no boundary wire and no antenna to mount, and drove it up a playground bank he said he could not climb without using his hands. His complaint: in soft, shady ground the front wheels can tear the grass during a zero-turn, and slowing down to a three-point turn fixes it.

On November 4, 2026 the 1500 and 5000 showed out of stock on Mammotion's site and the 3000 Standard was in stock. Mammotion includes three years of 4G service. The page does not say what happens after that.

Dreame A3 AWD Pro

Rated 80% (38.7°), in three sizes: 2,500, 3,500 and 5,000 square meters, which T3 lists as 0.62, 0.87 and 1.24 acres. No wire and no satellite base station. It maps with 3D LiDAR and a pair of cameras. It is the one model with no price here, because four pages gave four different amounts. Check Dreame's page.

Dreame page

MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD

Rated 80% (38.6°) for 0.75 acre on a single map. Both MOVA and Freshly Charged say a second map stretches that to 1.5 acres, but that is for two separate map areas, so the checker uses 0.75. No wire, no antenna. Freshly Charged's reviewer tried automatic mapping, said it worked fairly well, and then mapped by hand anyway for precision. The price matched at $2,399, down from a regular $2,999 on the maker's page.

MOVA page

Husqvarna Automower 435X AWD

Rated 70% inside the lawn and 50% at the boundary, for about 0.9 acre (Husqvarna gives that figure plus or minus 20%). It is the only one here that needs a physical boundary wire, and the wire is not in the box. The app does mapping inside the wired area. It costs $2,999.99, more than any wire-free model above, and its slope rating is lower. Its price isn't buying a steeper climb.

Left out for now, and why

Each one goes on the page once a maker page and a second source agree. Spotted a mistake or have a missing spec sheet? Send it over.

Check which of these fit your yard

Where each number came from

One caution on the checking. For slope, the second source is usually a reviewer quoting the maker's spec sheet. Two pages agreeing shows the number was copied right. It does not show the mower climbs that hill.
